The successor to the Rio Grande is the UP and the successor to the New Haven is Amtrak (or Metro North?), but my favorite railroad today is Norfolk Southern. Why? Because they really go after business agressively, live up to their promises as much as possible, including promises to Amtrak, and they are ahead in technical innovation, such as the Triple Crown Service. The also have a great heritage, I liked the Southern with the green and white and gold Pacifics and the great steam on the N&W. I did once ride behind a 4-4-2 on the Wabash between Fort Wayne and Detroit and that was a very fast trip . Dave Klepper

How else? The Wisconsin and southern of course, there the local railroad for me. I didn't care for the fact that they sold there passenger engines though. I also like the WC, they had a neat paint sceam.
