my friend has a about 5000 or so picture slides (negatives)most are in color and have date/s and the place handwritten on them. the slides include engines cars depots signs basically anything and everything relating to trains and the RR. looking for some idea on value or people with interest in such items

You'd probably have more feedback if you posted about them in the Trains Magazine Railroading forum, or the Classic Trains forum. How old are the slides? If they are slides, they must be positive transparencies, not negatives...
