I have a Lionel 3100 Great Northern sounds of steam engine and tender. The flippen noise drives me nuts. Great engine etc, but I was wondering if I eliminated the board in the tender could I then install a Bachman steam sound board? My question then is are the leads from the locomotive positive and negative and then I could just cut the leads in the tender and hook up the sound board that way or are there other issues involved? Could I eliminate the Bachmann speaker and hook the two wires up to the Lionel speaker? I have changed these in other tenders and added the Bachman boards to hornless Lionel diesels with no problem. Thought I would ask for advice before digging into this "new" idea. Thanks.
