Kalmbach! FIX THESE FORUMS!

  • Newbies:

Also be aware that the Kalmbach "TRAINS" family of forums is one of the most user unfriendly forums there are. Along with having to "Click here to return to post" after posting a reply and hidden edit buttons, now, the odds are like shooting craps if you can even get on this "Classic Trains" forum.

And it doesn't end there: http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/200024.aspx

Numerous attempts to bring these forums problems to someone's attention have so far fallen on deaf ears. Either that or they don't have the balls to tell the boss there is something rotten in Milwaukee.

  • Not had a single issue getting any of the forums so far today... Cowboy

  • Big Jim, I think it might be an agent in the chain bringing the site to you where you live.  Nobody else seems to have problems.

  • I don't know what that means, but, I've been having trouble since last year with the "Classic Trains" forum especially. I'm not fond of those irratating pop-ups either.

And why did you move this to where no one can see it?

    .

  • Because this is the forum for such topics...

Please keep in mind this is just one (1) large forum that covers all the RR Magazines and Websites.  Anytime someone does complain about issues I do try to check things out as quickly as I can as a moderator and if there is something I report it up the chain.

  • I don't have any trouble.

The only ongoing issue of which I am aware is that the forums don't work right with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 9 unless the user puts it in compatibility mode.  Other than that it works perfectly.

  • 1. Your username (e-mail address) & password can't be saved in Opera's 'wand' data like just about all other forums I visit (and I visit dozens of them). This is a real problem and pain!

    2.  How can one turn off the unnecessary notification of ones own post?

    3. The no ability to post attachments. Again, 95% of forums allow this. It';s a real hindrance since one can't attach photos or layout designs.

    4. Lastly, the ridiculous small space where the text actually appears is dwarfed by the rest of the page. It's 25% forum and 75% waste.

  • Keep in mind, this site is currently run using Third Party Software (COTS) and not something Kalmbach maintains internally.  Yes, I have been a Member and/or Moderator of other forums that use what (IMHO) are better software packages; but then again, Kalmbach is not asking us for $$$ to have this site either.  Plenty of places where one can upload photos / videos on the internet for free that you can then use to post here.  In fact, I'm not a fan of attachments as they are not as easily found via search engines.
