Getting the hang of it - it does seem to move a little faster. But I really appreciate not having all the ads - it made the website way too busy.

Fortunately (for me) I use McAfee so the ads never make it to my screen;. I also have Roadrunner, so the time factor is not that noticable; however, at times the forum took a while to load even with broadband, I cannot imagine how long it must take with dial-up! I have not noticed that delay during the time-frame you mentioned.

Unfortunately I have bad news. They'll be back. This was only temporary. The good news is that we'll be working on improving the performance of our adserver so they don't impact the performance of the sites they're on.

Are you running a firewall like Norton Internet Security or ZoneAlarm? NIS for example has an ad blocker which strips out character strings as they pass through the firewall. For example, '\promotions\' is one of the many character strings. So if there was a graphic that had a url of http://www.somesite.com/promotions/someimage.jpg the firewall would strip that out and you wouldn't seen the image at all.

The same thing I believe is happening to our scripting for ads (or something). That's something I'll be taking a closer look at in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, here's something you might want to look into (for Internet Explorer) because you may be experiencing this at other sites.

Internet Options -- Advanced
Disable script debugging: checked
Display a notification about every script error: unchecked

First, I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion. A lot of our sites used to have frames and it's just something we want to avoid as much as possible.

I took another look at the top part of the page. The section you're referring -- the HTML is about 4.23 KB, the two main images are about 6.4 KB. The images are served with a cache value of 30 days. It's not too bad. Better than it was.

The primary focus for the project was to replace the forums and the registration/membership system. However I also went through and cleaned up some of the code throughout other parts of the site (it wasn't good). While it's still not perfect, from a programmer's perspective it's a big improvement.
