Painting before or after?

  • Hi All,

New to N scale railroading and building structures/kits, etc. Is it advisable to paint a kit before assembling or after?

  • It depends on the material and the adhesive you intend to use.  Plastic parts joined by solvent won't work if the joining surface is painted.  Wooden parts can be stained or painted, then fastened with ordinary wood glue.  Usually the kit instructions will advise which course to follow.

Others with more experience will probably be able to expand on this if you re-post in the Model Railroader General Forum.  As you can tell, this area doesn't get much traffic.
