OPERATING CAR COUPLERS WITH TABS

  • In 1955, Lionel began to find ways to save money buy cutting back on quality.  One of their examples, which I have a problem with, to this day, is the tab on the coupler of the operating milk car.  I fixed the 1955 3662 version by gluing it.

I have modern milk cars that I think are worth collecting.  They ALL have the same problem.  If I am fortunate enough to even get the tab pin to lock, it comes undone when the train is running, and I have to either back the train up and pick up the car or walk over and fix it.

This is very frustrating.  I want to avoid using Elmer's Glue on all the operating milk cars, if possible.  The operating barrel cars don't have the problem, probably because of lighter weight.

Any suggestions on how to address this problem will be sinerely appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

  • If you take this question to the Classic Toy Trains forum you will probably get more response.  That's where the Lionel folks hang out.

  • Thank you very much!  I finally figured out this post wound up in the wrong area.  I thought the "CTT" forum was the only one under the CTT site!  I was wrong.  Yes, I have had a lot of replies from helpful folks on the CCT forum.

Now, I am aware that all the forums appear, whether I look at Trains or Classic Trains.  I subscribe to those as well.
