Actually they have fixed a few things with the change.....
One of the best things they did was to now allow us to again highlight part of the text where you are replying, hit quote, and have only the highlighted text appear in your reply where the cursor is placed.
Another is to actually have a working spellchecker on the site.
Only thing I don't like is the same thing that is happening all over the web. That is the sites are all being made friendly for those using little 1.5 x 3/4" screens on their portable telephone, camera, texting, fax, vehicle operating devices... To heck with those of us who actually like "real" computers. We can just click 4 times to get to where we used to just be!

We'll get there sooner or later!
one more suggestion- change your CSS so that it renders the site properly in all screen resolutions. I'm running a widescreen monitor and the site occupies only 1/2 of the screen width.

I think Kalmbach could have communicated better with forum members. They could have explained the changes and why they were made. They could have conducted a survey of members to see what was desired and to find out what the members liked about the old format.

Garry,
While I agree with your first statement about better communication from Kalmbach about the changes, I think a survey would have just opened a whole can of worms. Then a few folks would have been offended because "their" suggestion(s) or recommendation(s) were not implemented into the new upgrade.
I do think it would have been wise to at least forewarn folks that the reason for the recent 24-hr. forum closure was for an upgrade and what things we should expect with the new format. But - even then - folks would have complained about the proposed changes - just like they have been over the past week.
On second thought...perhaps the way Kalmbach handled it was the logical choice. Make the changes and let folks figure things out. Either way it was going to be a lose-lose situation for them.

Please change the colors. I'm somewhat colorblind and the gray text in the 'quote' area for replies fades right into the white. I have to highlight it to see it. The blue color for the reply toolbar is nearly white for me. Not really a problem there but some of the icons in the toolbar also have grays and blues and that does cause a problem. It would help if the toolbar background was a different color.
When pasting a word, sentence, paragraph, photo into the reply box I have to have my pointer on a line where the cursor is, otherwise the menu for the cut/copy/paste doesn't appear and instead I get the back/reload/bookmark/save menu. Sometimes it so bothersome I just use the keyboard codes Ctrl-V/Ctrl-C/Ctrl-X/Ctrl-B and so on to accomplish what I need to do.
I know the 'upgrade'/'reformat' or whatever you want to call it was done to make the forums mobile device friendly but in so doing it has become more PC unfriendly.

Hey Web Gurus: Am I the only one having trouble getting the "last post" on a subject to work?
It always takes me to the beginning of the subject rather than the latest poster. I am having to scroll thru many postings I have already read. HELP! I am wearing out my scroller...

OK, I've been playing with the new site for a few days - both on PCs and on an Android phone.PC fixes:1. Put the page links back on the main forum PLEASE! Having to click on the post THEN click on the page you want to access is a pain!2. There is no direct page access ANYWHERE you have to click on the post, then scroll to the bottom, then click 'Load More Posts'. REALLY???? Did no one test this on a mobile device? I've run this site on both an Android Phone and an Android Tablet... very annoying. I should not have to go to 'Full Site' mode to get this feature---Forum Members: Please do NOT respond to this thread with 'change it back'. Changing the forum back to the old software renders it nearly unusable on mobile devices. The new site is better in those terms, but still has a way to go.

It works for me... but if I have not read the thread (or not since more than just one reply is posted) then I have to scroll backwards to the beginning (or at least back to the 1st post after the last time I did read the thread).
Other forums I frequent keep track of where a registered user last read each thread and then have a link on the table of contents page to take the user to the next entry in the thread that the user has not yet read.

Sorry Bob I thought you ment to post them under the topic in this forum. I have sent the post to the correct thread.
For myself most of my, admittedly few, posts are in the prototype subsection seeking information on a specific point. I don't care at all whether the poster has a few or a few thousand posts, where they reside or what the weather is in their area.
If the forum changes result in less nonsense and less "chain-posting" well and good, i'm all for it,
Randy
