Technical Issues After August 13, 2012 Maintenance

  • RDA64

For myself most of my, admittedly few, posts are in the prototype subsection seeking information on a specific point.  I don't care at all whether the poster has a few or a few thousand posts, where they reside or what the weather is in their area.

If the forum changes result in less nonsense and less "chain-posting" well and good, i'm all for it,

    Randy

Since you find the forums other than Prototype so aggravating, why don't you stop hanging around on them.

Why not just stay on the prototype forum and then none of us will be aggravated.

  • Ok maybe you can figure this one out. The above post was supposed to have read

  • As I've said before, "beggars can't be choosers", but unfortunately the Kalmbach Powers That Be still haven't figured out how to find and implement decent forum software.

After the latest maintenance upgrade we still have:

    - Agonizingly slow response time. Does the server complex use old squirrel powered processors?

    - Lack of Advanced Search. C'mon, every forum on the internet has the ability to search within Title, Text, etc. Is this feature hiding somewhere?

Not that Kalmbach actually monitors these forums regularly, but I respectfully suggest that management and IT types consider some alternatives. There is some very good (gasp) Free and Open Source forum Software out there for which you have the option to pay for support and possibly priority software fixes.

    Other missing features welcomed!

  • Here is something else that is missing from this latest version:

It used to be that if you wanted to quote somebody out of their post, you would reply to that post, and then quote them as a part of your reply.  Then if you wanted to edit, it would reopen your reply for editing with the post where you got the quote showing right above.  That way you could edit the quote as well as edit your reply.

The way it is now, when you edit, it does not display the post you quoted from, so you can't change the quote in your editing process.  And you can't delete the post and start over.  I guess the only way to do it would be to edit your post down to say "I have to start over" or something, and then do the whole thing over.

And with this new program, you can no longer lock your own post just for grins.

  • Some of the same as Lionroar88.  Also, I have tried to change from newset to oldest and reverse.  I click on latest post and that post goes to the bottom of the screen.  I have to read up to see other posts.  In FAQ I saw a "pull down" for assending and decending.  I do not have that pull down in Community Settings or anywhere else.  I need to have latest post at the top of the page and then read down.  Clicking on your yellow thingy only changes while still on the forum.  Leave and come back, same old same old.  Thanks for your assistance.

  • The following is the most recent post to the Pre War American Flyer thread.  I hope that someone can figure out what has happened so that the photos that overlandflyer has posted can be seen again.  His photos have been a great addition to the thread.

time to bring this string back to the first page?

i'm not sure why i seem to be the only person having this problem, but all the pictures* i have posted seem to have gone away with recent software change.  i tried to reenter this last posting, but i just cannot get my pictures to appear with the new "insert image" feature.

sorry about this.  i have saved a copy of everything i posted so if they ever fix this change, i might copy them back, but i am stumped.  i've asked the forum owners through a posting and through a communication, but i get no response.

it was nice while it lasted.
    cheers...gary

    * there seems to be one post that still has pictures and i'm trying to figure that one out.  the pictures are in the same web location and i did nothing different with this single message, but frankly i'd rather spend more time writing than having to deal with **** like this.

    Thanks for looking into this.

    Garry,

While I agree with your first statement about better communication from Kalmbach about the changes, I think a survey would have just opened a whole can of worms.  Then a few folks would have been offended because "their" suggestion(s) or recommendation(s) were not implemented into the new upgrade.

Telligent Community is off-the-shelf ware (like say Microsoft Office). It is not custom made to specs from Kalmbach. Telligent of course get feedback from their customers (where Kalmbach is one among many) and maybe even the odd end user, but Telligent do not scour every forum all their customers operate on various versions of Telligent Community to find out what every end user of their product like and dislike.
