Problem with IE9

  • I just tried to reply to a post in Locomotives (" Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 any recent news on the Baldwin sharks") and my entry somehow got lost.  Only my name appeared in the post when I returned to the thread.

I then came to General Discussion to post this warning/alert and had similar problems with a new post.

All of this is no doubt caused by my installing Internet Explorer 9 this afternoon.  I used Firefox to complete the reply in Locomotives and I'm using Firefox for this post.

Just wanted to warn others and alert forum administration.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.  Sad

  • IE-9 is more up-to-date than the forum software and you have to put it in "Compatibility Mode".

Look at the icons at the top, next to the address box.  you will see 3 squares.

A piece of paper that looks like it was torn in two (really looks like two mountain ranges to me!)

a set of green chasing arrows

    a red "X"

Click ONCE on the first one.  The screen will refresh and the icon will turn slightly (very slightly) greener and IE-9 will be in "Compatibility mode" for all the Trains dot Com forums and will work the way you expect.  If you click the icon again it will again refresh and will no longer be in that mode and won't work right.

You have to do this for each URL that you frequent that is "behind the times" (which is most of them!).

Once set for any one website you don't need to do it again.

If you want to see a list of which sites you have set to this mode, press and release the "Alt" key to bring up the menu bar and then click on "Tools" and select "View Compatiblity Settings".

  • I'll stay with IE8 for the foreseeable future.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

  • Please ignore. This is a test. I had to get a new computer, which is IE9 and have not been able to post since. If you see this, it worked.  Thank you.

  • Another option for those having IE9 issue, is to use another browser such as Firefox...

If you're reading this, know all that Semper Vaporo is my most recent hero!  Everything you recommended seems to have worked.  The proof will be when I click on the Post button.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... your words are kind.  It is nice to know it was not in vain.

In lieu of sending cash to me or my favourite charity (also me) I will accept no less that the smug satisfaction of having done at least one good deed in my life.

I understand that if I do 999 more I am elegible to get an "Atta boy".  And a 1000 of them can be exchanged for one "Oops!  I almost screwed that up, didn't I!".
