  • Hi guys,

  • This is assuming you are using MSTS, not Trainz.

Okay.  First of all, if you are installing them and not putting them in a consist, then they won't show up.  You can use the editors with MSTS, but I highly recommend getting conbuilder (You can get the free version or the pay version) to build a consist.  It will show whatever you have, regardless of it being actually in a consist, so you can put it in a train.  Without being in a consist, it will not show up at all.

Some of the locomotives come with a self installer.  Make sure this is pointing to your MSTS install (I have had a couple I have had to track down after they were installed in weird places!)

If it doesn't, this is what I do with just about everything I downloaded for MSTS, and I have A LOT!!!

Download the file to a dedicated download site.  I call mine "Train-Sim Download Target" so I can find it.

Unzip the file.  I unzip mine in the the target file.

Open the train folder in MSTS.  I do this as a small window so I can go back and forth.

Read the zip file.  A lot of the stuff you can get requires a payware or other shape file.  Some require a cabview or sound file too.  Do what it says to set up the shape file.  I do all this in the target file so I can find it and if I screw up it is not lost somewhere.

Move the new file into the train file of MSTS.  Almost 100% of the unzips have the file named already.

Run Conbuilder.  It will check all the locomotives and rolling stock for errors.  Most of the time, if there is an error with something, it is that the designer did not change the name on something they did multiple versions of.  Open the wag file, correct the name to match the file name, and save it.  Run conbuilder again to be sure it is fixed.

Build a consist.  It can be just a locomotive.  Save it.

Run MSTS and select explore the route for whatever route you want.  The locomotive, with whatever consist, should be listed.  Select it.

    Play.

Train-Store, another FREE utility, lets you run any consist in any activity, so you can play with the new toys in traffic!

This question is answered in more detail in other places in this forum.  Just do a search.

Ask again if you are still not successful.  It took me a while to figure it out.
