  • Nevermind,

I am having way too much fun with my N-scale train's.

I love this hobby and don't know why I did not get into it years ago.
  • I think there was one with a yard to work with over the internet sometime ago. One could do a limited amount of train car forwarding on a trail basis.I did not think much of it, except the satellite photos were useful in learning where is what and how.

I prefer to use the MS Train simulator and the Auran's 2004 Train sim. I cannot wait until the sims really hit the stride with alot of places to go and things to do. Maybe even possibly running with other "Virtual" trains driven by real people trying to maintain a schedule. (Just dont make those red stops signals tooo long zzzzzzz)

If you are considering buying a train sim, you really need to look at your system. A video card capable of 128 Mb (256 is better) memory in addition to about 256 or 512 (One gig is better) of RAM. The bigger, faster is always better with these very large programs.

I use a Ti4600 card, the Auran Trains 2004 pushes it. I plan to replace it with a Nvida 5950 Ultra card in a year or so.

Additional content is availiable by others for free and sometimes for a small price.
    Best of luck!

  • O.K! I'll owe up! You asked the question of the year on me. I wish you should go to www.trainmaster.com to download program in .zip file, to find in probably your program files, or otherwise downloads. You should have a modern anti-virus program, and firewall(whatever that is), norton, i think? Anyway, your getting a 4.7mile, two train file, use 600x800 screen for this one(but don't hate yourself for using 1024x768 when you go to a real man's website like http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/default.htm or http://www.trainzproroutes.com/ , that's what the rest of the world uses!). The trainmaster dispatches three SD40's on forty MTY's and gives you the first shot at a "keyboard" opertated controller. Next, if you please Mr. 420express, go to http://www.signalcc.com/train2/td2free.exe and get Train Dispatcher, from www.signalcc.com . These are free downloads, by the way! Signalcc gives away three routes, and low and behold if I did't find myself in hoggy hogg heaven! The Norfolk(Pronounced Norfoc) Southern North Atlanta Subdivision of the Georgia Division("Why Georgia?"). Since spending ten years around Rome, Georgia, I'd learned all the trains by route and scanner, and quite enjoy dispatch of seven or eight trains per session(about fifteen minutes). Also www.trackplanning.com will give you a little more than e-mail, seriously! You select objects, build a layout using shinohara #8 switches, and flex track and when you get it all done, run your selelect. of engines, F7, or SD40, or five SD40's on whatever you can make within onehundred objects. My personal layout, Scenery and Operation in 5x8 was actually accomplished with 138 objects! I think I got extra credit for smooth trackwork! So, there you have it. My next move is Planet Auran TrainzSim 2004, which I plan to get from Amazon, via "Oteeva", and then Microsoft Train Simulator(MSTS), sometime in not atoll too far in the future. Hope this helps, Enjoy Your Hobby 420express! ACJ/Backyard.

  • Here's an update. Whilst browsing, I found the Ultimate Trainz Demo Version UTC 1.5 at http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/downloads/demos and though it took me a minute, Iv'e managed to get past "Driver" mode and "Scenerios" ( the "Blue Sky Steel" switcher ops). Even though some of the features are not enabled (like the SD40, listed in the objects "readme's") I have totally enjoyed the program so far! You get to pick F7's and FA1's in Driver(Engineer) mode. 40' & 50' Pennsy box cars, loaded and empty coal cars, a huge non-flat layout, city, country, industrial, freight yard and all that's needed to develope a customized operation to suite yourself. The Blue Sky Scenario is a restricted, however I snuck over the switch, went and stole the Pennsy's box cars and eased them out the yard, and highballed around in my SW7 until I missed a switch and woundup in the station. The wreck ended the scenerio, all because I became distracted by the girls on the platform! ("The Sims"?). That was the first "Zepher" I ever ran! In Surveyor mode you can fly the green Z around the layout, and using the tools provided form terrain functions easily. Just make sure you set the handbrakes when you park! Otherwise your train might not be there when you come back to it!

  • Ever heard of the Ffestiniog Railway in Wales? Their website has some good downloads for Train Simulator and Tranz.........dozens of their cute steam locomotives and cars, as well as the route itself. Here's the links:

  • Thanks, guilfordrr, this looks like one of the websites to study! It looks like there's lot of content, http://www.auran.com , and also MSTS as well. I enjoy sites like this, that teach the life of railfanning around the country of Wales, because you never know where I might finda favorite prime mover, some take-me-back screenshots, or maybe the attitude of a railroader like Uncle Harry! Not mentioned in this thread(yet) is the website of Mr. J D Peterson, http://www.alabamarailfan.com . I listen to the Decatur, Alabama scanner whilst I run Powder River coal to the Georgia Power Company fossil fuels generator in The Central (area) of Georgia! Makes a great background audio, for any kind of railroading! Enjoy Your Hobby Mr.Gulifordrr! ACJ.

  • Go to train-sim.com for a lot of free downloads. You'll have to register for a login name, but it's a free process. In order to access the file library all the time you could get a pay for a membership. It's a really cool site for us trainsimers.
  • I now use this forum for concerns within the United States of America, and I'm feeling concern for the MSTS community, because they are sensitive to the release of MSTS-2. I objectively researched the community, so I'm not prejudiced to any one more than the other, and after all, 3rd PlanIt brought me through the learning curve, albiet with five SD40-2's, so I guess it's a physical layout thing, and I can relate to that, I often wonder around asking "where's my model railroad?" And, so. Daily, I run my 20 Mty's to the coal mine to exchange for the loaded tonnage, with my F7 and FA1. Don't think for a second I don't check in with http://www.alabamarailfan.com , cause I like the SCL U36B's John and Jason created. Anyway, we'll see how it all go'es. Virtually Enjoy Your Hobby! • Yes BRSulzerC25, the Japanese website is extreemly interesting, and I visited there sometime ago. Their high speed commuter rail rules! I belive I downloaded a picture of a high speed cross-over switch, and viewed the cab-screenshots. It's great to visit other parts of the world and gain knowledge of other systems, via internet technology. Enjoy Your TrainSim! ACJ.
