Question about reinstalling MSTS

  • I recently changed from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, and since that weird things have been happening with Train Simulator, like not being able to hear the horn/whistle outside the cab. I am thinking of reinstalling MSTS. My question is, if I reinstall MSTS, will my add-ons and activities I created still be on MSTS?

If this helps, my copy of  MSTS is not in the default directory. (The "F" drive)

  • Yep.  If I remember correctly, when you click on the bubble that says reinstall, don't click next, but look in the lower left corner of that box.  There should be a checkbox that says something about "keep my stuff" or something to that effect.  At least, there should be.  If not, then I'm really not sure what to tell you except to copy everything into another folder and then copy it back after the installation is complete.
  • Okay. Thanks.Bow [bow]
  • No problem.  Let me know if that works, since I'm not entirely 100% sure.
  • When you un-install and then re-install MSTS, custom-made routes will still be there, but none of the activities unless you select "save custom activities" or whatever it says.

If you want to be sure nothing gets erased, you could backup all of your content and burn it to a CD. Then once you re-install MSTS just copy and paste it back into the Train Simulator files.
