Trainz 2006 Content Manager Downloader Problem

  • I have installed a fresh Trainz 2006 DVD, registered the game, established a username, password and several days later finally got into the Downloader process within the game.

I spent several hours searching for and finding about 100 megabytes worth of content. Placed the stuff into the download manager box.

Selected download and off we go. Then get a warning that "server appears to be full try again later." (And yes there is a FCT enabled..) router configured, firewall configured etc  etc etc....

    Zip, nope, nada, forget it.

    WHAT a waste.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Are there another websites independant of Auran online that might host content to download and install into Trainz2006?

Im familiar with MSTS downloads but never have had the Banged Head [banghead] problem that this program is giving me tonight.

  • Obviously you can't download anything at present, so take the opportunity to optimize your downloads once it's back up. Make use of your Shopping Cart. You can still browse and search for assets, so find the ones you need immediately and queue them into your Cart, then when the DLS gets rolling you can select Download All and save yourself extensive search time. I can hear some of you hollering that if everyone did this, the downloads would slow to crawl and maybe even stop again. Actually, this may save bandwidth by cutting down the number of searches required for each member, and regardless, people are going to flood the server with download requests anyway. Hopefully, the DLS will be up soon, but taking a phrase from a famous book, Don't Panic!

  • I chose to uninstall this product and store it.

I cannot get anything to work despite bypassing my router. So I call it a exercise in waste of time and money.

    Thanks all for the assistance.

  • You should go back to MSTS maybe....A train sim is always fun to have on any ones PC :)....I can help ya with it if ya'd like....If I would of known ya had issues with TRS I would of helped ya right away...Sorry that I didnt get to it sooner....Both sims are very nice to have :)

  • I dont have "Issues" with it. I took the Highland Valley Layout that they had inside one of the scenarios and opened it up to build a local where you take logs from previous day's local from Greenwood to JB Lumber on the hill.

Learning how to build the scenarios and using what YOU want to run.. even a tom thumb engine and a few flats from one of the downloads.

The only issue I have is with a game producer who is unwilling to devote resources to make downloads happen. I come from other games like Call Of Duty 4 and sites like fileshack or fileplanet where one is accustomed to downloading 3 gigabyte game demos in a single afternoon to evaluate the product before buying or no buy.

Here I am confronted with Auran and thier non working content. I would like to use it and populate my scenarios with B&O equiptment, but if I cannot get this content then... It just wont happen.

That is the only issue I have. Call me spoiled but years of enjoying large downloads and patches and other material availible on demand from very big game sites did spoil me bad. I had no idea that Auran had issues until this week with downloads.

There needs to be mirrior sites to carry the content and there needs to be a loosening up of bandwidth. I can move 250 kb/sec for 1 gig every 40 minutes or so download or upload 500 kb/sec minimum and here is Auran with thier 4 byte download limit from the dialup dinosaur days.

Who are we kidding here? Come on. They got thier revenue from the game sale. Now they need to make it happen.

I did get proactive and contacted the author of the B&O content and made a inquiry to the possibility of recieving a simple CD rom or similar direct in the mail and also made a diplomatic complaint to Auran tech support.

What is left is to post here and air the issue so that others considering Auran train sims as a potential buy will be aware of the issue before they spend thier 40 dollars. Just like we do with model trains sometimes. I know I will purchase more Auran products. They are pretty good. Just need to get that download up and running or give it to someone who DOES have the resources to make it happen as it did with MSTS game.

The internet is good when there is enough connection speed to go around. If you aint got it then get off the internet and stay on the porch.

Thanks for quoting my message verbatim from the Planet Auran forums. I'm sure everyone here can benefit from the advice.

  • The Auran staff has been cut down from 40 to 3, and those remaining are hard pressed to keep the ball rolling, but systems are dropping out like flies. The DLS may be one of the casulties of this shakedown and the very strong possibility exists that it will be shut down due to the high cost of maintaining a server and may never return. With this in mind, consider alternate sources of your assets, as has been suggested.

  • Well, The only thing I can think of at the moment is to have the Authors who willingly uploaded content to Auran's System for re-downloading by buyers of the game Trainz and associated software should now consider opening file accounts for free and re-uploading thier content somewhere else away from Auran's Control.

I was thinking today that I asked one Author "CincySouthernRwy" for content and wondered if 1000 other people also emailed with the same question after they too discover the downloader does not work.

I would think that these Authors might be buried in emails and not have the time to re-upload or share the files on thier own.

There is a way to keep content rolling, but I think the Authors of thier own content should now consider uploading to host sites for others to pull.

I had a very small free account to host frap videos for sort of training lessons but now is inactive for years as it is not needed. I dont see any problem painting a choo choo and uploading to share with the world within that free host the choo choo for the Trainz game instead of Auran.

Otherwise the entire system will wither on the vine and die off when Train Simulator Two or the next new and greatest train game arrives on the retail scene.

  • Exactly! It may take some time for people loyal to Auran to pull away and seek out other options, but this will happen eventually when they realise that support is no longer forthcoming.

  • Ty, I was able to catch a few downloads one early morning but at 4 kb/sec it took about 12 hours to move the 100 megabyte of data.

    Unacceptable.

Im out of the trainz stuff anyhow.

    Thanks anyway.
