BNSF why

I went to colorado the other day and I saw a BNSF train whith a colorado southern locomotive and a bunch of NP hoppers and a caboose that said great northern I thouth BNSF got rid of thoes I am confused can some one tell me what is going on[8D][:)][:D]

With all of BNSF Parnet Companies I am lost like their was this one time in Essex, Montana They had 2 C&S Locomotives in Helper Service I was thinking this was the 1980's

Seeing a differnt locomotive on a train could be run-through power or it's possible they've leased the power or even bought the loco and haven't repainted it yet.

You also said it had all hoppers and a caboose. Perhaps this could have been a Matainence of Way train. Sometimes they put cabooses on those. Cabooses are still used in yards. I saw in one yard once they switching cars and the caboose was a buffer between the locos and the freight cars.

It's also possible they were moving the caboose from one yard to another, or they were sending it to the scrappers, or maybe someone bought it and it's on it's way to it's final destination: in the hands of a private citizen or a museum.

Again, they use whatever is available.
