What Specifications is your hardware?
Type of CPU?
Type of Video Card? (IF your card says Intergrated Graphics or Shared Graphics... it will not run very well.)
Type and how much RAM?
Type and capacity of hard drive or multipule drives?
Sound card type?
Personally I did not have trouble with the Trainz 2006.
The only issue I had was activation because the online database of download stuff was attractive.
My computer specs are pretty high end as of 4 years ago and has been upgraded three generations and ran this game pretty well for me.
That is why I am wondering what computer are we dealing with here.

this is as much info i can give
Dell Dimension 5100 Windows XP

Ok.
This computer is a nice machine. I find nothing wrong with most of the items on this computer. The 512 mb of ram is rather small but acceptable. I have found personally 2 gig of matched RAM to be the ideal amount with todays games.
The only issue I have here is with the ATI Radeon X300SE PCIe Graphics Card with 128MB Memory

Question Technical FAQ."What Video Cards are Supported?"
nVidia GeForce 2 nVidia GeForce 3 nVidia GeForce 4 nVidia GeForce FX 5600 and above ati Radeon 8500 ati Radeon 9700 ati Radeon 9800 ati Radeon X750 ati Radeon X800 ati Radeon X850
The card listed in the review is not listed in the supported card list.
Right click the "My computer Icon" on your XP machine
Choose "Properties"
Choose "Hardware" Tab
Open "Device Manager"
Expand "Display adapters" by clicking the "+" the resulting entry should be the video card you are currently using on your machine.
I use a Nvidia BFG 7800 GS on this machine, it replaces the 6900 and Ti4600 that comes before it on my AGP 8x slot so I dont know anything about ATI other than what I learned when researching (As you can do too...) this question.
Copied and pasted over from FAQQ. What does supported mean?A. Supported means that if there is a problem found with that graphics card using the latest released drivers then we will attempt to assist you to resolve the problem. If you are currently using an unsupported video card, you may experience some performance degradation, as it may not be capable of displaying some of the graphics features of Trainz.
Q. My video card is not in the supported list for Trainz can you help me?A. If your video card is not supported by Trainz this means that we have not tested it for compatibility with Trainz and therefore can not provide technical support beyond the suggestions made here. Try updating the device driver in the first instance as sometimes this is all that is required. Go to the device manufacturers website and look for the latest drivers to download.

Add your information to the drop down choices and download the appropriate driver for your card.
If after installing the driver and rebooting your machine you attempt the game again and still have the same issues.. you are probably now in the market for a video card upgrade. Because Dell is a propietary computer maker, you will probably need to contact Dell for a new card from list that was provided by the FAQ off of the Trains 2006 website. They will know if your present machine will be capable of accepting the new video card.
It has been my experience that large gaming houses deliberately limit video cards that they support in a retail game to those that perform well and are rather top of line, forcing the gamer to upgrade his or hardware to stay in the game... literally.
DONT GET DRIVER
you will be much more satisifed if you get the full version, located near the simulation games, its in a much bigger box. It has surveyour which lets you make your own routes. and if you don't plan on getting the full version then uninstall trainz, and reinstall it, when its done reinstalling, DO NOT OPEN IT OR RUN IT...go here and get this (http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=81) ...its a service pack, your looking for the 3092 download, which is one of the first 2 downloads, it doesnt matter which one you choose. and just let it install, and remeber, make sure theres nothing to do with trainz left on your computer. and heres some extra info...(http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=80)
Keep on trainzing!
