YOU HAVE PLENTY OF CPU SPEED AND MEMORY BUT HOW GOOD IS YOUR GRAPHICS/VIDEO CARD. IT WILL WORK OK ON GEFORCE 2 ULTRA OR BETTER

Actually since I switched to XP MSTS hasn't locked up on me. However having said that it's a good idea to make sure you have the latest drivers installed for you sound and video cards.

Windows typically loads so many programs at boot up that the user only really has about 300mb out of 520mb that is useable. That said, graphics programs are real
hogs. You can remove some programs from boot. While still available it's just not
as fast to access them. On the plus side your computer will boot faster. Also make
sure DMA is turned on.

I went with the Gforce4 with 64meg DRAM and that solved my freezing and reboot problem in XP. XP is the most unforgiving OS that has hit the market. My old 98SE worked MSTS better than XP does

I have had Train Sim for about a year now. XP and a 64MEG video card were great for it, and my CPU and memory are more than enough to run it I have downloaded some of the MSTS patch updates, but still it sometimes sticks. A recent problem has come up when I'm switching in the yard, and I can't couple to the car in front of me. The car countdown goes to 0 and then -0, -1. It's like hooking up to a ghost car, lol.

Try to reinstall it, for some reason only known to MS, at times the update skips files. Now this is not the end all to the coupler problem, it makes it easier, but not bulletproof.
