MSTS add ons

  • I recently added some engines to MSTS. When I go to consist editor and add them to a train they work fine, but when I try to play the game and try to choose then to drive they do not show up in the locomotive list. I was wondering why this happens and what I can do about it. The downloads were of CP SD90, CP AC4400 and the UP SD90. Thanks

  • If you have Conbuilder, you should run a test on the engines, and make sure all the files are good. If you dont have Conbuilder, go here,
ww.3Dtrains.com and go to the download section.

  • They should show up in the Explore Route list. They will not show up as an option on activities.

Also, may be simple but make sure you are saving the consist (some people forget).

Route Riter (a free download available on train-sim.com) has a feature which allows you to run Explore the Route with any train at any time with traffic from any of the activities you have (so you can really run what you want, where you want).

  • I don't mean to take over this thread, but I have a very similar problem. I downloaded three locos- an NP Northern from train-sim.com and two 4-4-0s. After downloading the Northern, I decided to download a pair of matching E-6's. I followed the instructions, and it worked when creating a consist, but I got errors when I tried to play the activity. Now, whenever I download a new locomotive, it doesn't work at all (The original three locos are flawless). Help!
  • Can you post the errors you got from the activity? It would help a lot in diagnosing the problem.

  • Unfortunately too often, an error sneaks into the engine (for locomotives) or wagon (for rolling stock) file. The most common one is that the wagon file name does not match the one on the wagon line in the file. Most common in multiple locomotive versions and in loaded and unloaded cars with similar names. ConBuilder will point these out when you load it. It is easy to fix (just open the troublesome file and edit it and save it).

If you add a loco to a consist, the loco should show up in the list. It may not be the name you are expecting. Scroll through all the locomotives in the list (there is a utility on Train-Sim which lets you see more than one loco on the list at a time). It could be listed by type, railroad, or developer.

Be a little more specific on the error you are getting. It will help us help you.

  • Sorry guys; just found my problem. For some reason MSTS created a clone of the "TRAINS" folder. Once I move the lost files to the real folder and deleted the copy, things worked fine. Thanks anyway, everyone.[:)]
  • That is know to happen with some installs. Some will also build a folder with the same names and hide stuff there. I have gotten to where I don't trust many autoinstallers on freeware (there are a few people I do trust) and just have it install into a temp folder I have set up, then move it myself to the correct locations. Fewer headaches and wondering where things went.
