"Railfan position" option for MSTS

  • Hi, I've a question today for MSTS:

when you choose to look at your train from the side of the track (thus depressing touch "4" on your computer), you cannot see the entire train with the basic program: you see the locos, and maybe the two or three first cars, and then the the program automatically position you further, and so on.

My question is: is there somewhere an available patch to download, so as to be able to see the entire train passing by, prior to be relocated, or even better, a patch that allows you to choose a remote location from where you'll wait your train coming?

    Thanks for any input.

As far as I know there is no program available to alter you trackside point of view position in the way you describe: a stationary camera view to watch the entire train. The only way to do that that I know is after you press “4” is to press “ctrl + right/left arrows” to move down the train one car at time. It works the same way on your number 2 and 3 external views, too. If you are on the RIGHT side of the train use your LEFT ARROW to move to the end of the train, if you are on the LEFT side of the train use your RIGHT ARROW to move to the end of the train, and if you are on BOTH sides of the train at the same time LOOKOUT! You probably had a wreck!

  • There is a download available, I believe by KLW (not on the home computer to check), which "unlocks" the 4 view, allowing you to move around, including up and away from the train. While you are still locked on one car, the timing is longer so you see more of the train. You can also "fly" around the train and "run" up ahead. This download removes the #2 view (who really needs the 2 and 3 at the same time?) since the 4 can be used for the same purpose.

There are also downloads available for a helicopter and a blimp to fly in the simulator, allowing you to watch trains from a different vantage point.

Have you got more input about "KLW"? I searched today on Google, but there are a lot of businesses whose name is "KLW"...

  • Sorry, it is http://www.klwtrainsim.ne1.net

I highly recommend their Norfolk Southern Megapack. It is great (including cab radio sounds!).

The tool is KLW Train Sim's Cam CFG v 3
