Train Simulator Damaged

  • My MSTS got damaged. Are there any other good Railroad simulation games out there? I have Train Master but I don't like it as much as I did mixrosoft's train simulator any suggestions? Is Trainz any good?

  • Trainz is great. It's much harder on a computer than MSTS but it's worth it. The custom content offered by others is great. i would look into buying Trainz TRS2006 when it comes out.
  • What do you mean it is harder on a computer?
  • You will need strong video card, cpu and RAM to play the simulator when it comes out.

Consider cleaning your MSTS and doing a re-install.

Every 2 years or so hardware loses the ability to keep up with the latest games. I just ordered a extra gig of very fast RAM to maintain my ability to play a online game without "Crashing" or other issues that interfere with my ability to engage the opponet.

I look forward to picking up Trainz06 as well. I hope that they finally made it so that when you apply the throttle on a steam engine the sounds will change. It used to be changed every 10 mph or so even if you closed the throttle you still had the chuff under power.

Reinstall your MSTS onto your computer and you should be back in the training before too long.
  • Trainz doesent feel like railroading like MSTS does but there are free Train Simulators like BVE.
    Save the F40PH!
  • I had a problem similar to the one you had. I got lots of downloads and made my own cnsists and Activities for all of them. When a train would be so porly constructed that it wasn't worth using I would just delete the file from the Trainset directory not even thinking about the other .con and .act files.

Then when I would restart MSTS I would be "atacked" by 50+ error messages.

What I did is reinstaled MSTS and before I used anything downloaded I would record a list of every file and it's .eng or .wag file name for whatever I download and everything that depends on it and all its file names. Then if a download didn't work I would look at the directory I made before hand and delete everything that is acociated with the file if I cant repair it.

Also a good Idea is when you download one engine with many repaints for the roadnumbers just pick one to use and leave the others for helper engines. That way you list of available trains (when in the Simulator) is less cluttered.
  • TRS2006, requires no more than the graphics card which comes with any given computer.
DirectX9c, which comes with the game, works better, but OpenGL is a matter of choice.
Now if you wi***o drop a couple of bills, a graphics upgrade would even improve your e-mail!
