As a former "trainzer" who had both the original and TRS2004 (plus all service packs) I would have to stress the point of looking at what your buying with TRS2006 before jumping in.. auran have repeatedly hyped up the forum by making promises of the future of trainz that they time and time again do not meet.. its like the microsoft flight simulator hype of the train simulator world "as real as it gets" in the same way auran uses "the most complete train simulation ever" MS flight sims full of recycled planes and minimally updated things of which are low grade.. trainz is no different.. the steam in TRS2004 even with all service packs was pathetic and an insult physics wise to the wonderful creations of 3rd party creators that simply because of aurans lack of attention to detail.. were never able to fully realise there creations
TRS2006 looks like TRS2004 because it is.. with an additional service pack I dare to say.. just like there ultimate collection was just trainz 1.3 with all the free content auran didnt create bundled into it from 3rd party users..
its sad.. it really is.. I wish auran would stick with what they set out to do but looks as if they havent yet again.. I would read alot of reviews and talk to alot of people (outside the top 10 auran "trolls" on the forum who wont hear a word said thats bad about there beloved company) and listern to sence most of all.. if your after a simulator.. i'd wait for the other 2 to come out.. by kuju and raildriver seriously..
if you like playing with model trains (again) yeah go for it..
I could just sum it all up in the words of smithers of simpsons fame
"but look!.. shes got a new hat!"
alot of people should know what I mean by that

The TRS2006, has the same graphics, but how you go about doing the business of Trainz, has been upgraded to today's standard of gaming.
A service pack has been announced, to cover issues that only true Trainzers could find, after the big release.
Several content creators have tutorials, like http://www.worldoftrainz.com/Pages/Tutorials.htm#TRS2006 , to help normalize the trainzition.
No new service packs can be expected for TRS2004, however I could be corrected in the future.
Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 rules for me![8D]
