Hi List
Has anyone had any problems and solutions running MSTS version 1 on a windows Vista machine? When I exit the screen goes black and the program will not respond. When I load a winter snow scenario it wont start. Is there a fix for this?

Actually, I think the snow scenario problem is a problem with MSTS, not Vista. The one (and as far as I know) only patch for MSTS fixes that problem and a couple of others.
I run it on my new Vista equipped Gateway and don't have much of a problem. Its a quad-core with 2Gig of ram so I get much better frame rates and the trains don't look like they are running through a treeless wasteland!

Try running MSTS in comaptibility mode.
Right click on the program file (or even its shortcut) and choose Propertites. Then click on Compatibility and select an eralier version of Windows.
The latest update is v 1.2 - no mention of Vista on the website.
As mentioned - try compatibility mode, or you could run XP in a Virtual Machine - if you have a legal copy of XP lying around. ;)
MSTS and TRS on Vista = BIG TIME PROBLEMS Thats why I dont run Vista with my sims....I got a few PC"s that have different windows so I can run all the different games with the right operating systems....Its the BEST way to go....A PC for TRS...A PC for MSTS...A PC for Flight Sim...A PC for Military Sims.....Is how I run it :)
I have the same black screen problem with MSTS on my new Vista computor. Also have to run it in "simple controls" mode as some keys will not work such as the brake release key. Have to bring the "task manager" up to get out of it. Problems with flight sims too. Am thinking about replacing Vista with XP. However no problems with TS2006. Ken
I'll tell you what - MSTS runs nicely on Windows 7 Beta 32-Bit. It doesn't run on 64-bit...yet.
