  • I grew up around the Santa Fe, Mopac and the Rock Island. After Katy took over RI trks in KS they also became a favorite. Another favorite of mine and one that I have found to have a very interesting history is the Wichita Terminal Association in Wichita,KS.This is the joint switching company in the north end and is currently owned by UP & BNSF. The city stkyds formed their own switching rr in 1889 called Stkyds Assn RR. Mopac took over in 1903 changing it to Wichita Terminal Ry. In 1910 the WTR was sold to the four rrs in town under the new name Wichita Terminal Assn. Since that time in 1910, the WTA has used switch eng pwr from the city rrs on a yr by yr rotation. Steam pwr ended in 1953(a SF yr) Currently, UP & BNSF trade off pwr every 18 months. BNSF pwr is being used now. I have lots of history of the company and am trying to find a yr by yr list from 1910 on which rr engs WTA used. The 100th anniv of the WTA itself is 2010 and an idea is to write a booklet on the history of the company providing if there would be enough interest out there but that is just one of my many crazy ideas which will probably go nowhere.
