Here's an issue that many people may have dealt with;
My father is a rail fan and has a 8X10 Lionel Layout that he has had since he was a kid and I got the train bug from and has had some sort of model train since I was ten. I am working on learning the hobby of modeling and prototypical operation, however, when my father comes to visit he normally takes over and wants to high-ball every train and send them every direction he can. I know he has told me that he thinks I should have more track (his layout is solid track so he can run trains everywhere) and he doesn't seem to understand my approach of modeling.
I wondered if any one else has encountered a similar type of incident with a family member.

I am the only one in my family who does model railroading. Even so, everyone takes part by either funding my various projects or helping me with the benchwork (my family is full of carpenters thank God). I really don't have a problem like you do. You should tell your father to lay off a little. Even though you guys share the hobby does not mean you have to operate the layout the same way or have specific railroading interests in common. My friend Tim and I like trains but our interests withing the hobby vary greatly. Even so, we get along and just enjoy ourselves.
