missing hobby shops in Dallas TX

  • when last assigned in the Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas area, two shops I frequented were Iron Horse Hobbies in Lewisville and Phil's Hobbies in Farmers Branch... Both are gone, anyone know why, when, etc.

Also, how is Discount Model Trains, see their ad, haven't had time to check them out.

    Thanks, Pete

  • Don't know why those two shops closed. Even when they were open Discount Model Trains was and  still is the best in the area. Give them a visit next time you're in the area. You might also give Silver Spike in Denton a look.

I live in Ohio and we have had 3 local hobby shops that have closed in the last 5 years. The main problems are that people are not interested in model trains  that much anymore. Also the local hobby shop cant compete with the internet stores.

  • I'm a G scale outdoor railroader from Lubbock, Tx, 360 miles from Discount Model Train.   Drive there 2 or 3 times a year, also mail order from them, they have a great show room  also buy from the net.  I got my AirWire 900 from them, best thing ever did no more track cleaning.

  • Gonna have to agree with Sawdust.  Lived in Lubbock for 12 years before moving up here.  Discount Trains in Addison was always the highlight of any trip to the Dallas area.  Lots of selection, brightly lit store, very friendly staff.  Felt like a kid in a candy shop!
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.
