Royal Mail Steam Birthday Stamps

[:)] My local (Phila) paper has an article today (page E2) about these upcoming new stamps, for the (200 th ?) birthday of the steam locomotive.
The Inquirer shows one (of the six) and refers you to "www.royalmail.com" .
I couldn't get that web-site to show me any of the pictures.

Is there perhaps a skilled techno-nerd out there, who could please provide some guidance [?]

I actually wouldn't mind seeing these stamps myself. It's ironic that the Royal Mail would release a set of stamps with trains on them considering that they want to quit transporting mail by train in February 2004. I'm very much opposed to this decision. There are so many adantages that rail has and in the end it will do nothing more than make for poor service. Perhaps they will save a bit of money, but in the long run it's not a wise decision.

Just looked at the Royal Mail site and couldn't find any images. Stamps are to be released January 13 so you might try back then and going to the link for Stamps and collecting. I agree about the irony of railroad stamps coming out as the use of the dedicated mail trains appears to be near an end.

Just got my January edition of "The Railway Magazine" with an ad. (p. 62) for first day covers, with the 6 stamps arranged on a print of Terry Cuneo's (painting of the) Flying Scotsman.
The six are (as best as I can decipher from the miniscule copy);
-- a Talylyn Railway 0-4-0 T, a Caledonian 0-4-4 T, a Grand Central 2-8-0, a 4-6-0 Manor Class, a West Country Pacific and a BR Standard 2-6-4 T.
I'm going to place an order -- but if any of our British residents could scan in and post any large size ad., which they might find, that would be greatly appreciated !

Sadly, although RM send the pictures to the media about 2 months before issue, they don't put them on their website until about a week before! By now you should have seen all they want you to buy, but if you also want to see all the postmarks/cancellations which were available for this stamp issue, have a look at our site, where you can also see our own limited edition first day cover showing Black Prince which is on the East Somerset line.
