  • F40PHR is an informal designation for the Amtrak F40PH's that were built with SDP40F's as trade-in credit.  Some of them had a number of one of the trade-ins under the cab window, probably for accounting purposes.
    The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
  • Also you have the F40PHL (long) that have a second independent diesel for HEP (head end power) to allow a slow idle with the prime mover during long waits between runs while keeping the coaches warm and lighted.
