M-497 book on line

  • Well, I wasn't able to get a publisher for my book about the M-497 test vehicle.

Fortunately, the Midwest High-Speed Rail Association was kind enough to put the pdf on its website.

If you want to read about this historic test conducted way back in 1966 by the NYC, just go to:

    http://www.midwesthsr.org/pdfs/m-497online.pdf

I hope you'll enjoy learning about this event.

One nice thing, you won't have to buy it.

  • I encountered some problems with some of the photographs and M-497s monthly inspection certificate, which failed to re-produce on 3.24 @ 5:00 PM. Please try to fix this if it is possible, as it is quite fascinating reading. To see M-497 on video see Green Frog Productions New York Central Odyssey Vol.II, disc I Emery Gulash's film of this event is superb.

I saw the M497's mortal remains in 1977 in (Croton) Harmon's dead line as PC 98, very heavily stripped with some fire damage which appeared to have been caused by careless use of cutting torches. Too bad we couldn't have saved this valuable piece of our heritage.

  • Which photos gave you problems? If others are having image problems, I've got to fix them. So I need to know exactly which.

Please advise, as you're the first to reply that he/she is having problems. I've posted this message on several other forums and the only problem that I've been told about is with the URL and the fix was quite simple.

For those having URL problems use http://www.midwesthsr.org

    Then click on "Library"

Do you have the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat  Reader?

BTW--Don had the NYC documentary film on the M-497 transfered to DVD. Had we been able to get a publisher, we wanted to include the DVD with the book. It would be a unique package as, not only could you read about this historic event, you could actually watch it, too.

I have adobe acrobat 7. So, should I allow more time, to see if the problem pages correct themselves, like page 14? Label me curious.
  • I believe 7.0 is the latest version.

Let's carry on this disucssion off-thread.
