The fate of Norfolk Southern GP35

  • Is there any list of retirement or sale date of Norfolk Southern GP35s?  They had a bunch at their merger, former Southern and former N&W.  I think they also picked some up from Conrail (ex PRR)

Does anyone know of a listing of the fate of these engines?  When did they get sold, or scrapped?  I know NS only has one GP35 in current service.

    Thanks!

And they have been for a while. Judging by what resources I have at hand, I can say that GP35s have been off Norfolk Southern's roster since at least 1993. They sold a bunch of them to Guilford/Pan Am Rail in the 80's, and they are still active, with some retired due to mechanical failures. Conrail dumped their last GP35s long before NS and CSX did a chainsaw merger with Conrail!SoapBox [soapbox]

  • I think a bunch of them were sold to Wheeling & Lake Erie.  They have a nice fleet of GP35s.
