don't buy from internethobbies.com: they're crooks

  • has anyone placed an order with www.internethobbies.com? if not don't place one. i placed an order with them 3 weeks ago for a Walthers ortner aggregate
hopper and a Bachmann Spectrum 0-6-0 saddletanker locomotive. i inquired about them yesterday and internethobbies.com said they did not have my order. so if you fellow railroad modelers out there value your money, do not buy from the dishonest people at internethobbies.com. they took my $115 dollars and are nothing but crooks.

  • That's why I don't trust anything you can buy online especially with a credit card. 1.) no matter how secure they claim it to be, if it's on the internet sure enough a hacker can get through and steal credit card numbers, and 2.) there's always the possibility something could go wrong.

Probably you clicked the wrong thing, you got billed, and at the same time no order was logged. Computers are not infalable.

If you used your credit card or debit card when you get your statement reference that when you contact the Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org/ . You were billed and no product recieved. You might also check out Consumer Reports http://www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp .

    I checked www.internethobbies.com

Their fraud policy can be found here:

More info about credit card fraud can be found here:

I did find a discrepansy on their billing procedures. In one place they state that a money order can be sent instead of using a credit card.
"Remember, you have the ability to place your order electronically on the site using the shopping cart system and then choose "I WILL SEND MONEY ORDER" as the method of payment. Under the Comments Section please indicate that you would prefer to have an Internet Hobbies Order Specialist call you for your credit card information." -from the FAQ page

However they also state "ALL PRICES ARE IN US DOLLARS - WE ACCEPT NO FOREIGN CURRENCY, CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS" -from the info page under payment methods.

If you were billed and recieved no product conduct the manager of that business, the president of that business, the Better Business Bureau and then the FBI in that order. They FBI can and BBB can direct you to the consumer frauds departments.

Good Luck, and I hope you get your money back.

  • i also bought a steam locomotive from internethobbies.com and never received it. i placed my order using a united states postal service money order 3 months ago. since then internethobbies.com has given me the run around. they told me they do not accept money orders but yet when i called them and emailed them they said that would be no problem. no doubt about it, the folks at internethobbies.com are nothing but thieves and crooks that should be put out of business for good. if anyone else has had similar run ins with internethobbies.com i suggest people email them and then boycott them. or better yet call the FBI and other appropriate authorities.

  • I'm sorry if this customer is having a problem with my company. It is not the intention of Internet Hobbies to ever take a customers money without delivering the goods. I am sure that the thousands of model railroaders out there who have done business with Internet Hobbies over the last few years already know this.

I have emailed this individual to try and sort out his problem.

In refernece to our statement that we "Take no foreign currency, money orders or checks." That is correct. We only accept US funds, US Money Orders and US Checks. Our bank dings us $10.00 for each foreign money orders and checks and that is why we do not take them.

  • To the original poster--If you did not receive the items that you ordered from Internet Hobbies but they did charge your credit card bill, the first thing I would do is call the company and try to sort the situation out. When that fails, you have 45 days from the time you receive your credit card statement to protest your charge. To protest the charge with your credit card company, you must do it in writing. There should be directions and an address on your statement (usually on the back).

    Hope this helps.

  • I've tried to contact this customer several times via email to try and solve his problem. I have yet to hear back from him.

Could he have been a "Red Herring" acting on behalf of one of our competitors to post incorrect information on this forum? I would think if you feel you have lost over $100.00 on a missing transaction, you would make it a point to make contact with the very people you are maligning and see if they can offer an explanation for their actions.

We keep photocopies of all check that are sent to Internet Hobbies. We have went through our records for the months of August and September and have not found any money order that was unattached to an order. We have also checked our credit card records for those months and have found no unusual transactions that are unaccounted for.

It's just strange that this guy has suddenly dropped off the radar.

  • lou1963 were did you go? Did you get your engine you ordered three months ago? Or the other one you ordered three weeks ago from the same place?
  • lou1963 were did you go? Did you get your engine you ordered three months ago? Or the other one you ordered three weeks ago from the same place?
  • Just checking back to give you a status report on the Lou character. We have never heard back from this guy about his missing order and money.

Either he was a "viral" marketer hired by the competition or he discovered that he bought it someplace else and is too embarrased to come back on this forum and admit it.

Amazing how someone could do this but what the heck. That's life.

Please, if anybody can shed some light on this let me know.
