  • Hmm...I might have to buy the first DVD and check it out since I don't have Dish, and don't get many anime channels. But it does look cool; and I do watch anime. The trains look pretty awesome if you ask me.Smile [:)]

  • This is a new version of  Leiji Matsumoto's "Galaxy Express 999" from the 70's and 80's.  Where the "train" is actually a spaceship built to look like a train as a nostolgic rememberance of the days of humanities past. I've seen "Galaxy Railways" but to me it lacks so much of a the angst of the original series I didnt care for it. The original series focused a great deal on what is Humanity, as it was a universe where one could obtain a perfect machine body and essentialy live forever, but the cost of that machine body was the inevitable loss of what makes one human in the first place, emotions, caring, love, one's soul. Its a universe of machine people where those still humans could find themselves on the end of a hunters rifle. The train comes to represent to the machine universe a sad nostalgic rememberance of a lost time before the machines took over and all were human, those who ride it see it as a last link to their lost humanity. However, it was only a backdrop to the main characters story, thats what made it so strong a series.

Do a websearch of Galaxy Express 999,  Leiji Matsumoto, for more info or go to YouTube.com which has several GE999 clips. 999 is currently only on VHS, and for whatever reason hasnt been issued on DVD yet.

       Have fun with your trains
