Dismantle-ing an old wooden flatcar, questions.

  • There is an old flatcar sitting on a siding behind the house I live in. The tourist train company I think is trying to find  someone to get rid of it. All the wood has been removed. With scrap being so high now, how much does a knuckle, axle and various other parts of this old car weigh? I don't have the energy to go after a project like this, but just am curious.

  • I'm no expert, but i'm guessing around a couple tons or so. Can't imagine all that hardware weighing less than 2,000 pounds. I may be wrong, though. How long is the flat car? And all that remains is mostly the metal hardware? :)

  • Well someone was guessing one axle with wheels alone would weigh 4000 pounds. Its about 40 foot long. My 93 Ford F150 weighs 4000 pounds. This flatcar had to weigh at least 20,000 to 30,000 pounds empty. Anyone know more specific weights of these items?
