    The questions are: Just exactly what does it do? When is it used? What happens if is not used? Simply put, When is it necessary to use this feature?

    What the heck is an EMD-F-59[?]

    Being Crazy,keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel,has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!

    It allows the main reservoir on the dead locomotive to be charged with air from the brake pipe . It is used when a locomotive is being moved in a train with the diesel engine shut down and not suppling air from its own air compressor. If its not used the brakes on the dead locomotive will not work since they would have no air supply. It would not be used if the dead loco is coupled to a live loco that could supply air through the main reservoir MU hoses.
