ES40DC, ES44AC and ES44DC visual differences

  • Does anyone know the visual differences between the following locomitives?

ES40DC, ES44AC and ES44DC. Has GE put out anything else new besides these models?

  • That's right, only NS has the ES40DC. I believe these are the only american engines built by GE currently, but don't quote me on that.
As for visual differences..There don't appear to be any major ones. I was hoping that the big cabinet on the left side would only be on the ACs..no luck.

  • I see several differances between the units Matthew sited above. First the AC has a vent / access panel below the 57 on the cab. The DC unit has two access panels just behind the cab where the inverter banks are on an AC. On the AC there is a smal box on the walkway behind the inverter banks that isn't on the DC. There is also a difference between the vent placement above the inverter banks, on the AC they are right next to eachother and on the DC they are spaced further apart.
  • I guess the biggest thing that stands out to me is the placement of the vents.
