I would say go for it you would have to travel to Lorton,VA or Sanford,FL to get on it and put your car in the Auto car. The PO52(north to Lorton) leaves late not much to see if you want to see trains or inside of yard due to the dark besides Folkston. PO53(south) leaves early in morning lots to see. Thats all I know about the auto train I never rode it.
If you past folkston make sure you wave to the people on the platform I have waved at all Amtrak's in Folkston not many people wave back. I am not sure many people on the platform wave besides a couple of people besides me but wave anyway.

You'd probably get more responses if you posted this over on the Trains mag forum.
