ho brand suggestions?

  • I'm thinking my son is ready for a train set. We used to buy used Merklin trains when I was a kid and was wondering what a solid brand is these days?

  • Athearn. Not too expensive, not too detailed, runs well, and is durable. Although I don't believe that they make sets..

  • Athearn does indeed make sets which can sometimes be found at Walmart at good prices
  • Then that's the way to go!

  • Athearn has good sets...I am not sure if they are still in production but Athearn Genisis had a 1 engine 6 car set and that is a good high quality line....for future purchases or expanding, I recomend Athearn R-T-R, Atlas, BLI, Proto 2000, Walthers (not trainline), and NOT BACHMANN
