Rock Island

  • I'm a beginner, and I like the Rock Island line. I'm trying to find F units in the Rock Island. Does anybody sell this anymore? And where can I find them?
    Thanks for your input

I have the Walters Sale catalog (sale ended November 2005 tho) and it shows P2K Rock Island E units. I didn't see F units tho. I also saw P2Ks for EMD SW8/9s, GE U28Bs, and Alco DL 109s. This is a fairly small catalog, nothing like their big catalog.

I have the Historic Rail catalog somewhere but don't see it just right now. I am not exactly sure what it showed last.

If you post your question on the Model Trains forum you will probally get a lot of answers. There are a bunch of great guys there. [;)]

  • Hey Scott

I have been to the U P. [:)] My brother was stationed at K. I. Sawyer AFB before they closed it. The base was near Marquette. He lived in a little town (off base) which I probally can not spell correctly--Isphming.

My family went up there to visit him one year. We went around the area seeing things and even across into Canada at Sou Saint Marie (may not be spelled right either [:(] ). I think it was at Marquette we saw a ore loading facility. Somewhere real close to that ore loading facility was a steam engine. I think it might have had a chain link fence around it, but I am not sure about that.

Do you have any idea of where that steam engine was/is? Is it still there? If so, can you give us a little history about it such as its railroad, its numbers, maybe a photo of it and so on? That would be greately appreciated if you can. [:)]

I found an older issue of Historic Rail. They showed a Rock Island F7A/B set. This catalog is over a year old. However you can call them and get their latest catalog, the toll free number is 800-261-5922. That states it is an ordering number but I am sure they can either send you a free catalog or give you another number to call.

I have ordered from them before. I like the variety of posters, tapes, DVDs, puzzles, books, locos, railcars, etc., etc., etc., that they have.

I have also ordered from the Walters before. The number listed for Walters is 800-4Trains.

    The website for each are:

    www.walters.com

    www.HistoricRail.com

    I hope that info helps.
