MDC Roundhouse

  • Does anyone know what happened to MDC Roundhouse? I've tried several times to get to their website and it always seems as though the site is having problems and is unavailable.

They, Athearn, and Railpower were swallowed up by Horizon Hobby. Athearn RTR is re-releasing some of the old Roundhouse molds with new paintschemes and better detailing. They are also marketing some of the steam era items under "Roundhouse RTR".

Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum! For further questions on model railroad-related subjects, try heading over to the Model Railroader forums. http://www.trains.com/community/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=8

  • Thanks Matt,

[:0]That helps. I've been a fan of them for many many years, I think maybe when I started back in the 50's. Athearn was also one of my favorites. I can remove the link I have in my favorites and add Horizon Hobby.

  • Mike,

No problem. I was always a fan of their grain hoppers and boxcars, until I got into the weathering and detailing business. Now, any Roundhouse I spy is a candidate for a detail and weathering job, with the exception of a few special items.
