I'm new to the hobby and am engine shopping. Bachmann offers some relatively low priced DCC equipped locomotive. Does anyone have any opinions on their quality? How do they compare to the rest? Any testimonials?

There are Bachmanns and then there are Bachmanns. The Spectrum models are very detailed and very reliable, in the same league as any (except the $$$$ brass jobs). I've got 4.

I understand the lower-cost models are not so reliable, but I've never had any. You might try searching the Model Railroader forums -- I've seen a few postings there that might help.
