CP and EMD

What's up with CP's love affair with GE? Almost every major locomotive purchase by CP in recent years has been for GE power, except for the small number of EMD SD9043AC's. I read somewhere that CP prefers GE's AC traction motors. Don't get me wrong, I love GE's, but I also like EMD's and also a little variety...

GM in the final years of its ownership of EMD was indifferent to problems with its locomotives and alienated CP and BNSF in particular. The SD9043MACs were 15 months late in delivery and only now are starting to run like they should, the SD90MAC-Hs are running nowhere near as well as a new locomotive should and are being used on long-distance locals to keep them near their shop. With the sale of EMD to new owners I believe that there is a good chance that CP will order some EMDs in the future. Note that BNSF will be receiving new EMDs in March after 7 years without purchasing a new EMD.

I read in another forum that CP was getting some new SD70ACe's, which I'm pretty sure is completely incorrect. I've looked around for info and only found that they're getting 60 ES44AC's. Is CP getting any EMD's? I would love to see what they look like, maybe bring back the old orange and multimark paint scheme.

No new EMDs on order for CP right now, but the 2006 order hasn't been decided yet. It will have to be placed very soon if CP wants them in 2006. All 60 ES44ACs have been delivered now.

I have been hearing SD70 order rumors for years. It's not really that likely.

I SWEAR THAT GE IS USEING MIND CONTROLL ON THE RAILROADS, NO ONE RAILROAD SEEMS TO BE ORDERING LARGE CUANTITYS OF EMD'S ANYMORE ,.[soapbox][:(][ MAYBEE THEY JUST DON'T LIKE THE PRODUCT.

I guess the only ACes we'll see in Canada will be on CN...which sucks.

They'd look a lot better if the headlights were on the nose (as would all SD70ACes).
