  • Can I ask why the smilie? Two trains wreck and you want pics for what reason? Just curious is all. If you want to see a heck of a wreck check out the METRA vs umpteen cars pics on any Chicago news paper. Sounds like Chicago area has had more than its share of trouble these past two days.

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

  • Smiling because my tummy is full of Turkey. I work in a roundhouse but just the GE loco's. I seen a lot of trains being re-routed away, around Chicago. Before I came to work with CSX, I used to work with UP in Arkansas and I know a lot of good people there. I also worked with BNSF in Havre, MT.
  • Kewl kewl. Yeah kinda glad I am not running to that mess ( on a renegade job on the BN) UP trains have been bakcing up like mad in Clinton Iowa this will only make it that much better!

  • this wasnt a head on...it was a T-bone

  • From what I have heard and read here in Chicago the UP train T boned the NS train. No reason given yet but somebody probably ran a signal. No deaths to crew members fortunately. Downwind evacuations caused by a leaking denatured alcohol tanker with the threat of fire possible. Momence is due east of Kanakee Illinois about forty miles south of Chicago. This is on the old Mopac line. Lines are supposed to be opened today for traffic.

I too understood it to be that type crash. The NS was enroute to Pittsburgh but I have little beyond what has been reported.

One story, I think in a Pittsburgh newspaper, said the NS crew saw the UP coming at them as they crossed the diamond. Again, just bits and pieces.

The collision was at CP MJ in Momence Illinois. that is where I spent my Thanksgiving and the last 7 days. The UP train blew a red at the home signal and made impact at 35 mph. The UP engineer the conductor and an LET (locomotive engineer trainee) all jumped off before impact. Hulcher is still cleaning up the mess. They will be there for quite awhile. Anyway, I will have some pics up later..

This one is gonna cost UP a ton of money. Not as much as the Graniteville wreck cost NS, but alot none the less..
