"Singing" Switches

  • I was on the Pittsburgh line today by Conway (CP Leets, MP15) and I heard a very loud ringing noise comming off three switches on track one, one for a spur and two interlockings on the main. I thought maybe they where doing some maintance on them but they looked normal and trains where still running on track one. Anybody got any insight?

  • When car wheels go thru a curve or a switch, the wheel flange rubs against the inside of the rail, makes a squealing sound. Is that what you heard ?
