need some insight/opinions on a train

  • hello, I've never owned a train before and really know very little about them. But I have recently wanted to get one for my daughter. I came across this one http://www.buddyltoytrains.com/buddy-l-toy-train-set.html at a local store, but not knowing anything about trains, or what to look for I didn't know if this was a good one or not. I did read a few articles about picking out your first train, but it didn't list this scale or this company. Any advise/ insight/ or opinions about this set, company or what to look for or keep in mind would be while shopping for a train would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance [:)]

  • I would sugest posting this topic on the Model Rilaroader forums, you would get a lot more insights over there.
  • thanks :) I wasn't sure if this was the right place or not :) I'm cuttin and pastin now :)

  • Also the classic toy trains forum as well. This forum is for discussion of real railroads that carry freight and actual people who ride.
  • As an HO consultant to many new modelers, let me sum up my initial suggestions.
    1. HO scale probably to best to start with. 2. Purchase a "great" running locomotive, not just "good" - you will never look back. 3. Track like Kato starter sets are expensive but very good quality. Will get you up and running quickly so you can immediately have fun. 4. I wi***he Broadway Limited line was available when I started. I'm sure I would have bought their locomotives with sound. 5. Let you daughter pick out the locomotive she likes - steam or diesel, even by colour scheme. Remember it's for her.
    Enough for now.
