Scanner Reccomendations

  • Hey everybody,

I've been a railfan since I was a kid, but now I'm moving up to the next level; I'm getting a scanner. Does anyone have any reccomendations on what or what not to buy? Also, anywhere specifically I can find one for cheap? I'm kinda on a limited budget...

    Thanks,
    Wesley

  • Look in the yellow pages under "Radiocommunication - Equipment & Systems" to find a shop that deals in VHF/UHF scanners. You can also try eBay.

I recently replaced my Radio Shack PRO-70 with a Uniden Bearcat BC60XLT-1. It doesn't hold as many channels as the old one (30 instead of 50) and doesn't scan as quickly, but has great reception and more than enough channels for my needs. Runs on 4 AA's and has a built-in charger for NiCd batteries as well, which is convenient to make sure your batteries are always ready to go mobile. [:)]
