REINSTATING FRMR MKT from STL or SEDALIA south to gulf (HOU)

We all know that a lot of railroad roomers get around..one that involves my area is the FRMR KATY south out of Sedalia, Missouri. UP would like to put this line back in as a direct route to the gulf and Houston, this way traffic from STL and CHI could by-pass KC. Has anyone heard anything about this? Would Rita pretty well destroy this hope of mine?
Thanks
NICK

Union Pacific has two routes from St. Louis and Chicago to Texas, the Former MP through Little Rock and the former SSW through Pine Bluff. I just can't see it happening.

The UP doesn't run any trains from St Louis or Chicago to Houston via Kansas City.

Interesting thought ,as was previously stated, but probably too costly to have happen..The right of way has been long abandoned and I would guess it would cause major litigation, but would sure increase the variety of traffic here in the heart of former KATY-land

The MKT trk from STL westward was built on the north side of the MO River, was very poorly enginered and was always being washed out by floods. MKT began using UP trk from Sl.Louis to Sedalia in 1986 two yrs before the UP merger. This was the result of another washout that shut the trk down for good and now is part of the Katy Trail which is worth visiting.
