Historic Union Pacific steam locomotive 3985 will be making a west coast visit. She is scheduled to arrive at the Portola Railroad Museum during the afternoon of Tuesday, August 30. The locomotive will be on public display at the Museum through Thursday, September 1. Admission to the museum to view the locomotive will be FREE, although donations are always welcome. The museum will be open from 10 AM - 5 PM both days. This is a rare opportunity to get a close-up view of the largest steam locomotive operating in the world today. UP 3985 is a Challenger-type locomotive, built in 1943 and used in heavy freight service across the Union Pacific system. Restored in the 1980's, the locomotive is currently a featured part of the Union Pacific's historic locomotive fleet.

This will be the first trip by the 3985 to the west coast in 6 years. Don't miss this rare opportunity.
