I'm new here and would like to know when and where old steam trains come through Dayton Ohio on their way to shows or what ever?

My best guess is you won't see one there. There are no active steam fan trips east of Chicago that I am aware of. The only time we see steam in Chicago is when UP brings one of theirs to town at this point. You will have to visit a shortline or railroad that operates steam. Closest one may the one near Cleveland for you. If you want to run up to Flint Michigan they run an ex Alsaka railroad narrow gauge engine that takes an hour or two to ride.
