Electronic schematic / digital protocol

Hi,

One of my hobbies is electronics and modeling. I just thought it would be cool to make something "usefull" like light-control or something else to connect to my railway. I'm thinking of making it digitally since I like to work with microcontrollers ( or micro computers if you like )

Does anyone have a schematic for the digital train controllers? or know how the digital protocol works? Any kind of documentation will help.

Stop over at the Model Railroader forum - that's right up their alley. I believe the standards for DCC have been published.
