Can anyone help out with some info about CSX's intermodal terminal at 59th st. in Chicago?
I'd like to know if it's built on the site of the old PRR 59th st yard, how the trackage is laid out, and if they've reconfigured Forrest Hill crossing south of there at 74th st.
I grew up along the B&OCT at on Bell ave and 65th st., and it was the most fascinating place on earth to me back in the 60's.
The PRR Hump hard, B&O (63rd st .station) and Wabash passenger , Fast Freights (stock and reefer blocks), every kind of transfer and power you could imagine from every road that served Chicago showed uo along that stretch between the Wabash and BRC at Forrest Hill Crossing and 59th st. B&O's intermodal yard was nearby too!.
Any and all present day info will be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Jimmy

Forest Hill has been reconfigured a little bit as a result of the building of the new intermodal yard and for other reasons. The connecting track to BRC in the northwest quadrant is still in place and a new connecting track (also to BRC) has been built in the northeast quadrant. I have seen both intermodal and coal trains using the new connector. Forest Hill is also now remotely controlled but I'm not sure from where.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
