Box cars, value?

Hi guys, newby here. Someone told me to check out this forum for help with a question of mine. I have two old box cars on my land that people have always told me might be worth a few dollars. Well, now someone has expressed interest in buying them and I have no idea what a fair price to ask would be. I'm not sure if I can post pictures here, but I put some up at my home forum:

Those "box cars" are actually old ice reefers. Quite possibly some of the last Santa Fe had in service, I note the ACI label on the one car SFRD 16752. [8D]

Judging from the pictures, they're probably worth little more than scrap value if the scrap dealer cuts them up on the spot. Moving them intact would probably be difficult and expensive since it would require specialized heavy haul equipment and special highway permits.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Hmm... A railroad museum might be interested in a couple classic 40 foot Santa fe reefers that really don't look to be in that bad of shape.
The only (expensive) snag would be moving them.
Are the wheelsets there?

Who exactly is this person who is interested in buying these two cars? Is this person a railroad buff or just someone looking for storage space? Either way if you feel as though you need to charge something for the two cars, I would recomend that you determine their value as scrap and subtract the cost of hiring a guy with a torch to cut them up on the spot and truck the pieces away. Having said that, if the person who is interested in buying these cars is willing to pay for the lift and transportation costs and you just want the things off your property it may just be a wash. Another option would be to contact some railroad museums (The Illinios Railroad Museum would be a good start) and ask those people if these cars have any value and if they may be interested in them. At any rate, intact cars of this type are becoming rare so I would not recomend having them destroyed! I hope these are helpfull sugestions, good luck!!!
